TAGGING
A lot of coverage has been given to the issue of tagging recently. Following the death of a 15 year old boy in Auckland, many New Zealanders are expressing their opinions on the matter. Government have recently announced a campaign STOP (Stop Tagging Our Place). Part of the new Bill is to forbid the sale of spray paint to those under 18. Will this stop the taggers? Tagging has a long history and evidence of it can be found as far back as the Ancient Greeks. Is tagging art? Is it disrespectful vandalism? When is it okay to be involved with graffit . Express below your views on Graffiti Culture.
From NZ Herald
Prime Minister Helen Clark will tomorrow announce a nationwide offensive against tagging which is expected to include tougher penalties and controls on the sale of spray paint.
In her speech to Parliament on Tuesday Miss Clark said tagging was not a nuisance crime.
"It is a destructive crime which attacks people's homes and other public and private property, and we will be strengthening measures against it," she said.
Those measures will be announced at Auckland's Clendon Park tomorrow morning and it is understood significant new funding is being put into the anti-tagging campaign.

Tagging is art if it has many colours. If is just scribbles then it is just someone being stupid and random. Therefore tagging is and isn’t art. If it is done by a professional Bomber then that means they are paid to tag on walls around the country.
Black and white tagging can be cool!!! Colour doesn’t define art.

The only tagging done should be by bombers and tag artists. They should have to get permission to tag up a canvas on others property because if you don’t then you’re as bad as the taggers. Anyone can become a tag artist or bomber. Bombing is art and you have to plan it out you can’t just go and scribble up a picture because then it’s just tagging. Even when you’re a bomber you still have to get permission from the people who own the property where you’re going to tag up a master peice.

in some bombing competitions, if your crew wins, you will get to move onto the next round and you get to travel the world.

Tagging is art, well some of it is if you can read it and if it reprisents something like sir Edmon Hillary or somebody famous for their passing.

i think spray paint should be sold to people over 20.taggers are not artists that get awarded to do what they do best.they are good at what they do(and we can read what they write)and they get payed to to graffiti not like people do in gangs it is complitily diffirent. bombers are artisits so people can enjoy what they get payed for.

I think tagging is vandalism because you see tags on powerpoles, fences and buildings. Most of the time you cant understand what it says anyway. I think there should be a big wall for taggers to tag on so they dont tag on privat property. To prevent the problem from getting bigger, spray cans should be sold to people over 21 years old because people under that age only care about looking cool.

I thnk tagging is vandalisim and spray paint should only be sold to people under 20 years old.
If that law was set then the 15 year old boy who got caught tagging and got stabbed to death would still be alive.
I think ther should be cameras in the main places tagging happens.
Bombing is real art work but people that do vandalisim on property is nothing but scribbles
