Short Stories

Short Stories... What a wonderful way to start term 3. Get you creative caps on and start writing.. After all, all you have to do is ...

Put a man up a tree
Throw stones at him
Get him down

Thinking about Thinking

Hey there Room 6. I trust that you are all having fun and treating your teacher well. I have had a very busy day and a half and have learned many new things that will help us in Room 6 become fantastic learners. I have had to spend a lot of time thinking about "what is thinking?" I spent so long on this question yesterday it made my brain hurt!!! So I am really curious to know what you think "thinking" is, also what is learning? and how best do YOU learn? Spend some real quality time answering these questions, they are very important. Have a great week. I will see you all on Monday, be safe.
By the way, do we have any student executives in our class?

School Uniform

Well for many of you this will be your first time in a school uniform. How are you feeling about it? What about the Year 8s? Do you have a sense of pride when you pull on your MIS clobber each morning? Do you think it is a good idea to have a school uniform? Why? There is much debate around the issue of uniform, particularly from students. When I was at school, I have to say that I did not mind wearing a uniform, at least I didn't have to worry about what to wear each day! What about any other bloggers out there who are in uniform, what is your view? Check out some of the arguments gfor and against school uniform before you blog your response.

Language

As we embark on a study of William Shakespeare this term, it has got me thinking about the ways in which language is constantly changing and evolving. New words are continually being invented as indeed they were by William Shakespeare himself. Old words are being changed in both the way they sound and the way in which they are written. As a teacher, I critisise the use of text language and insist on "proper English" unless of course you are writing a dialogue where slang is relevant. Is it correct to continue doing so? I mean we no longer write as Chauser did in Medieval times or as Shakespeare did in the 1500s, so is it fair to ask students to write as our parents and grandparents did? Or is it time to let the English Language evolve and move on into the 21st Century. Have your say... I'll even accept this one in Txt Language!!!
