Gangs and Mislead Power

What is the world coming to when a person justifies an act of violence against a four year old by the mere fact that he is wearing the wrong colour? On the 13th of May, the New Zealand Herald reported on an attack that occured in the Bay of PlentY. It involved young people claiming to be Black power members attacking a 4 year old child because he was wearing the colour red, the colour of their rival gang. Do you think think this makes any sense at all? Earlier in the month, a teenager was hospitalised after being attacked by two men, again for wearing the colour red. I myself wear red often, it suits me and it is the colour of my favourite football team Liverpool and my Country Wales. In 2011, many tourists will land in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup what will happen to all those red and blue shirt wearing supporters? Is this the message we want to send the world, where gang pride makes it okay to beat a baby?

Why an attack on a 4year old, not many other gangs would be that violently against someone that young, discusting. Red, one of the best colors and blue is just as popular, why such a fuss.

Again the color red,
why its just a color even thou its their enemies color no right! Gangs in New Zealand are getting out of control! The government are lazy just lazy in New Zealand they are not strict at all. The blue chip man that stole millions of dollars put on community service and a 40,000 dollar fine ridiculous! Crazy! Absurd!

Yea,
what will happen to the rugby fans they're so precious to New Zealand what will happen? Yes gang pride not fair.

I love liverpool too mostly for their soccer.

I tink it is riddiculus to think that a 4 year old got beaten up just because of his shirt colour. I think that anyone should be alowed to wear what they want without other people worrying about it. And I also think that it is stupid that a gang member beat up a 4 year old kid because what is a innocent little kid going to know about gangs and all that stuff.

If people are going to get hurt from wearing red and blue or gang colours espically little children that dont know about this or dont change them selfs this world is going to be a very sad place to live. And a little friendly town like morrinsvile shouldn't be like this and neither should other places!

I think it is silly that people think that they can beat up a 4 year old child just because he was wearing the colour red.

I think that people should have the right to choose what they wear and not get beaten up for it.

I can't believe that this person thought it was okay to physically abuse a small child. We are a nation of people who wear all sorts of colours for different resons: sport teams, hair and skin colour, to brighten up a dark winter's day to name a few. The emergence of gangs in New Zealand has demeaned the purpose of the Treaty of Waitangi and the fantastic Maori communities who are trying to battle for the rights of their people. If the young people wanting to join gangs are going to head down this path then I believe the whole nation needs to demand an improvemnet in law and order including kaumatua of iwi, Government and the general populace of our country. We deserve the right to be safe. Mrs Mac

I think that it is sad when a person has to pick on a 4 year old to prove himself tough enough to enter a gang.
People should have the right to wear whatever colour clothes they chose without getting beaten up or bullied.

i don't think it is right. how would a 4 year old and his parents know what colour to wear in a differrent area. i think some people don't realise or believe that this is happening. i do not think gang pride is fair. it is just stupid if you think about. if gangs want to beat people up, go some where else where the government and their people allow it. well away from morrinsville and new zealand.

Hi Room 11!

It makes me sad to see and hear about such horrific things happening in your country. We are meant to feel safe in our country and be unqiue people who respect others individuality.

I too, worry about tourists coming to our country, and New Zealanders themselves, and hope the publicity this event has recieved, makes people realise right from wrong!
