Lonely Burma needs a Mate

What is the future of Kashin's lonely mate Burma. Since the death of 40 year old Kashin the elephant at Auckland Zoo last month, debate continues as to replace her or move Burma to another zoo. Elephants are unable to survive alone for long as they get too lonely and 26 year old Burma will need a new mate soon. Earlier in the year, Auckland City council approved a $13 million dollar breeding programme that would bring 4 or 5 more elephants to the zoo. http://www.3news.co.nz/News/NationalNews/Auckland-Zoo-to-get-funding-for-more-elephants/tabid/423/articleID/93931/cat/64/Default.aspx
What has happened to this plan now?
"Our top priority will be to get company for Burma as soon as possible, and in the meantime keepers will be giving Burma all the extra attention that she needs," says Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken.

Strict restrictions regarding the importation of animals means that Burma's new mate might not arrive for some months. Is this cruel? Should an exception be made? Where should Auckland zoo get the replacement from? Why? Should Burma be moved to another zoo before he gets lonely? Why is it important for elephants to have company?

I think that they should set up a realy big Elephant park, that can keep at least 20 elephants. elephants need lots of freinds and need heeps of space to rome and breed.

I don't think moving Burma will make any difference.
I think that bringing a new elephant into the Auckland Zoo so that she is not alone.
It is very sad that Kashin died and it would be nice if the Auckland Zoo got Burma a new mate!!!

Burma the elephant shouldn’t be a lonely elephant any more. He needs a mate to keep him company till he over comes the death of his soul mate Kashin the elephant who died not long ago. Burma has all the attention right now but deep down he is missing Kashin so much and he will never forget him. So I say that Kashin should still be getting all the attention he needs but still needs another soul mate to carry on with life and to stop grieving over best friend Burma!

I think that Burma should go back to the wild and be with its family.

poor Burma,
i think that they should get at least 3 more Elephants and that they should get them so that the Elephants come quickly so burma doesn't get lonley. if they get more Elephants one should be called Kashin as a reminder of her.
