Guantanamo Bay Debate Continues
The US President has made a further Keynote speech to address the issue regarding the remaining 240 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. Listen to his speech http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8062338.stm and leave your comments, this is a really tricky situation and it will take great leadership to resolve it fairly and in line with the UDHR.

i think they should close it again and leave it closed
Very interesting that you think the detention centre should be closed. What should they do with the people being detained?
Most of the detainees are not able to return to their own country as they will be killed or imprisoned. The USA have asked other countries to take some of the inmates from Guantanamo Bay and offer them a new life; the other countries have said no. Why have they said no?
I think they have said no because USA has substantial evidence to support their theories that those detained are terrorists. The other countries, Australian and New Zealand included, don't want to take the risk of re housing a potential terrorist. What do you think those countries should do?
I do believe that the USA need to make a decision. They need to stop the abuse and respect the human rights of the detainees. They need to move on with the legal system and find them guilty or innocent. If found guilty move them to a normal prison. If found innocent offer them residency in the USA to make amends for the false imprisonment. They should set goals and time limits for the process to be completed. What do you think?
