Taser Time

NZ police are currently being asked to make a decision as to whether or not Taser Guns or Stun Guns should be a part of the day to day uniform. The guns have been on trial with the NZ Police for the last year and now it has come to decision time, do the guns become permanent or not? An anti-taser group said that we are "heading down a path to a greater armed police and a less safe New Zealand." Do you think this is true? Or are the Police becoming armed with tasers the answer to growing violence in NZ? Will it be more effective if the police carry guns? Some would say that tasers do not kill, however, a Canadian teenager died recently as the result of being shot by a taser gun. What do you think? Are the use of taser guns an abuse of human rights, or do criminals deserve to have pain inflicteed on them? Read more and leave your thoughts.

I reckon its time that the nz law needs to tighten up like other countries. the police should carry a gun from the event that led to a police officer killed. Cause for 4 million people we are very bad with crimes

if the police is alound to carry tasers around in their day to day uniforms they should have stages of when to use the taser. for example if someone had stolen item from a shop and not showing violence then they should be talked to not shot with a taser. people who are showing voilence towards people in the police or the community or hurt and killed someone should be shot with a taser because police have givin a chance and they have not obeyed the law.

Its time for new zealand police to step up and get harder on criminals. Because if a criminal can cary around a gun and the police can't thats not a fair trial for n.z police. So this is why police should have a right to carry around a weapon. But the police should not be allowed to use for a little incident only as backup if some case goes wrong. Even and electric gun that fires out voltage can do the job.

I rekon police should use the taser because if someone picks up a knife and tries to stab the policemen, the policeman has defence with using the taser. I agree with Brodie because the policeman might end up shooting a person who hasn't done much.

Police should be aloud tasers instead of their guns so no when get serious injurys. I reakon that police officers should be aloud to have them in uniform because if someone is stealing something you will not have to shoot them you can just taser them.

I Think that Tasers should be used in crimes with tougher criminals, not with weak criminals.

I think that N.Z Police should be able to carry tasers in their uniform. However they should not be able to use their tasers unless their or anyone elses life is at risk. There is other ways to deal with other crimes where there is no risking anyones life. I believe that tasers do kill so only the most skilled Police should be able to carry them around with them.

My opinion is that the new Zealand police carrying around Taser guns is not the answer to making new Zealand a safer place.
The other day a Canadian teenager died as a result off being shot by a Taser gun! This is just as bad as being killed by a gun, so you might as well be carrying a gun around. Taser Guns and stun guns have been responsible for deaths for more than 290 people, that’s allot of deaths. It has the capacity to inflict immense pain and suffering, not death.
I think that if the police and the government thought about the family’s that have to suffer the death off there loved ones.
I think that police should be informed on how dangerous the criminal(s) are and decide what two use then.
Well that’s what I think so lets make New Zealand an even better place, then maybe even the world.

My opinion is that taser guns are not the answer to stopping violence in New Zealand.
In fact I’ve heard from things on the TV that instead of tuppawear parties’ women in the future will be having taser gun parties. New Zealand Police are lucky because they don’t have to carry all of their weapons. Say if a police officer was to get shot, the offender might take the officers weapons off the dead or injured Police officer and then become a threat to their community. Taser guns in the wrong hands can be extremely dangerous.

Violence in New Zealand isn’t accepted but Police shouldn’t be afraid to go out into the community and face the community with weapons . Many weapons like the gun and pepper spray should only be used in extreme cases. Some times the most innocent people can get hurt or even killed if the Police carry weapons. On Thursday 24thJuly a 17yr old boy was shot buy an electric stun gun resulting in his death.

Tasers are good for police because they use them for good things to stop crimes from happening like if some one broken to a old museum and the police got there in time they will taser them then they will fall on the ground and let the stuff he stole go then he will get put in jail.
